Culture of Sikkim

"A unique blend of different religion, customs and traditions"

Sikkim is a multi-ethnic state, where people who hail from all the walks of life live together in harmony, and celebrate peace in unity. The three major communities that reside in Sikkim are the Lepcha Tribe, the Bhutia & the Nepali community. The women can be seen wearing colorful silk blouses coupled with cross breasted gowns detailed with dragon or flower motifs. The ensemble is completed with a multi-colored apron that goes down that waist. Sarees with distinctive prints are worn by the Nepali women, coupled with the Chaubandi cholo and heavy jewelry, with gold minted through bright green bead necklaces. Men wear traditional caps and Daura, Sural with a waist cloth and outer coat. And the maroon-robed monks with their shaved heads are quite a common sight in Sikkim.
