"Visit East Sikkim Lakes, Passes, Valleys & Nature"
East Sikkim is the administrative nucleus of the state, with its headquarter Gangtok being the center of all crucial tourism & governance related operations. Sprawled across an area of 964 square kilometers, the entire district is well buffered with military aid and is one of the most visited districts of Gangtok. The district shelters four wildlife sanctuaries, namely the Barsey Rhododendron, Fambong Lho, Pangolakha & Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuaries. The district witnessed invasions from kingdoms like Bhutan, was annexed by the East India Company & finally fell under the Protectorate of the Indian Government after Independence. The region is mostly inhabited by the Nepali, Bhutia, Tibetan & Lepcha communities.
The Eastern District sits under the ancient Silk Route, which connected India to Lhasa and is a very important piece of historical eminence.
