Festivals of Sikkim

"Blend in the Rich Culture of Sikkim"

Some of the major festivals celebrated in the premises of Sikkim are the Losar Festival, that marks the arrival of the Tibetan New Year. The festival is celebrated with great zeal with yak dances and public merrymaking as the households light up with the fragrance of golden fried "Khapso". The Kagyed Dance Festival is another vibrant festival where effigies of wood, flour, and paper are burnt to symbolize the destruction of evil. It is celebrated on the 28th or 29th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan calendar. Nepali Hindus celebrate Dasai, which is Deepawali when the Goddess of Wealth is worshipped. Sel roti, along with curries, sweets and pickles are prepared in every household and distributed throughout the neighborhood.
